Welcome to the club!

This is an experiment with the Ning network. It's free (except for those ugly ads to the right; please ignore them.)

Hi Jay,

I really like your Flows and Stock metaphor and what you are setting into motion here.

One minor glitch for me is once I got into Ning and created my profile (which was painless) I then felt challenged to find my way back, other than the browser-back that I ultimately resorted to, to the home page with Flows and Stock icons, etc. I was having the feeling of being shuttled off to Ning, when I didn't realize I was really going into another platform.

Hi, Jay. Ning is interesting as a social networking platform. What they call a Social network is what is called a Communitiy in Elgg, but the interface is very nice, perhaps easier to use than Elgg.

So, Ning is like EduSpaces.net, something free to use, since you are able to create as many Communities as you want there with their own files (any kind, not just videos and photos) and forum. You can also create your own page with widgets in your profile there. It is a pitty that Ning it is not open source software as Elgg is. Elgg is much better with tags and access control too. Anyway, I will try to keep an eye on it. Thank you for trying to create a good community here.

My main problem with Eduspaces.net is the inability to easily sort through the mountain of blog posts. It'd be nice if there were a "recommend" feature that would push the higher quality posts to more exposure. Something similar to what DailyKos does... Did anyone listen to the interview w/ Kos (the DailyKos founder) on Wired? I'd like to see Elgg offer similar features (unless they already do and I'm just not aware)...

I'd like to see a 1 to 5 rating scale on every blog post, comment, etc.

I admit to getting lost on Elgg.

With half a dozen posts and I'm already a little dizzy, I fear the same thing may happen here.

If this site takes off, it could totally happen here. Though... It's a good problem to have, I suppose.

Hi Jay, I like the ning as well, it is really the first time I have participated on a multiple-layer interactive space, others I have dipped into have seemed to ephemeral. For me there is a trust threshold which I have been able to cross - it is related to the content, its stability, its organization (findability), and probably alot of other things.

Sites like this collect so much excellent content/links which I feel like I want to or keep handy for a while. I don't want good things to disappear, or get buried, and if I do I spend a lot of time copying them over to other places (which takes time and lessens the enjoyment of just being on the site itself.) Probably this is also related to the fact that you are such an active moderator. Thanks for this initiative! I have already gotten some excellent stuff - like news on the conference in London on Friday on informal learning (which I will try to go to), and the video that David posted on web 2.0, and more.

On the trust issue, I think it's important that people display a photo. If they don't I have a tough time taking them seriously. How can you converse with someone who looks like this?

I've been thinking about PLEs - personal learning environments. They are in part a compensation for the disorientation which leads you to copy things. I am trying to break that addiction myself. Try using Del.icio.us or Magnolia. When you see something you like, click and you have a breadcrumb back to the item. You can tag it for retrieval by any terms you want. And you can even see who else has tagged the same thing. For example, here's my Delicious bookmarks.

Hi Gillian, Looks like you and I will need to sign up to zude when it launches. To get a peep at what is coming visit the site and look for the Take The Tour link on the temporary home page. My only fear is that my bowerbird tendencies will create a personal zude that will be even more untidy than my desk!!

I will bet that a peep over Jay's shoulder at his "Zude" will be instructive.

Hi,

I would suggest you that you should visit to some travel related websites in this respect. In fact, I’ve got quite useful stuff as and when I required travel related help.

Jay, I don't understand what are you trying to experiment now. Why did you hide the old discussions on the forum's page? Let us discuss about corporate learning and Web 2.0. We need real examples like DIA Analysts Are Turning to WEB 2.0 Wikis, Blogs, RSS Feeds and Mas...
