a collaboration of wonderful people

You communitarians* are among the first to know: I'm beginning work on the sequel to informal Learning. It's imaginatively named Informal Learning 2.0.

A lesson I learned last time around was "it takes a village." I'll be asking for your help from time to time.

Its interesting that you say "it takes a village" to write a book. Have you seen this mini-series, John Adams, thats been on HBO lately? Its a very detailed account of John Adams and his part in the birth of America. They recently showed the conversations and events that led to Declaration of Independance.

There is a scene where Jefferson is showing a draft of his document to Adams and Ben Franklin and they are giving him feedback. The original first line was "We hold these truths to be sacred and undeniable...". Franklin, fearing this line sounds too religious, suggests the change to "We hold these truths to be self-evident..." So you can see that even one of the greatest documents ever penned required some collaboration!

Now I am aware this show is a work of fiction and have no idea if it actually happened. I just thought that scene was an interesting illustration of collaboration and wanted to share. Also, thats a great show if you like historical fiction.

Robert, no I haven't been watching; I watch little t.v. With your nudge, coupled with the fact that I saw a poster about the Adams special at the Post Office yesterday, I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

As for the book, I think it's going to be in beta, for dialog and feedback, a lot longer than the Declaration of Independence.

Jay - why don't you go the whole hog and call it informal learning 3.0. 2.0 has been done to death ;).

Looking forward to the discussion.

Jay - sadly I can't make this one. We've got a big corporate event happening :(

Are you recording it?

hi Jay
I was in a meeting here. Would love to attend if you would plan it a second time.

Hi Jay - I was also unable to attend but would be interested in attending in a future session.

Oops! Sorry, Jay I've just noticed this thread; like Ignatia I'd love to attend should you repeat it.

Re Informal Learning 2.0, I thought that your book Informal Learning was actually about Informal Learning 2.0, but I believe continuing the discussion on this topic is a great idea since we do need to talk more about it to avoid misunderstanding!

Also, I'd like to let you know that I was in NYC at the TESOL 2008 where I talked about Informal Learning and the "big picture" in my presentation. It was based on the one I presented earlier for the IUCN meeting in Alexandria, Egypt. Unfortunately, I couldn't record it but here are the slides.

I look forward to learning more from you about this topic in Berlin, later in December :)
