Your passions?
Mountain bikes; motor bikes; early morning coffee; playing piano, guitar; oh, and a bit partial to organisational learning
About Me:
Long time lurker on Jay's blog, and a relative newbie to learning in organisations. Really trying to understand how informal learning and technology can help the organisation I currently work for, but finding resistance at all levels to a more collaborative, sharing environment.

Fighting for attention

Here's some text about the issues someone was facing about getting executive support for their business function. "In such a context, the ENTER JOB TITLE HERE has one way to show value to the organisational hierarchy. They must communicate the results of work in the language of business. The language aligned with the one spoken by company decision makers. And this is what appears to be one of the major issues for the ENTER JOB TITLE HERE. He has very little room of manoeuvre to explain in ‘… Continue

Embracing Diversity

The timing of Donald Clark's attendance to his diversity training made me give a rueful smile. Not least because I wish I had been a fly on the wall to watch how the trainer managed Donald, given his already outspoken view on diversity training. But the real source of my rueful feelings were that at the same time as Donald was getting "trained", a good friend who works on the Tube was going through… Continue

Are towers ivory?

I'm still at a loss for words.

But I'll have a go at trying to understand what has been happening between what is preached and what is actually done.

Recently, I completed my studies with a certain Chartered Institute, got good grades across all the required disciplines and generally performed pretty well.

I figured that getting a recognised 'professional' status in learning would

Sorry, I wasn't listening. What? I have to read? Nah, I prefer Auditory, me.

Clive Shepherd writes here in a post about 'neuromyths' where pop psychology with no reliable scientific basis still dominate the learning field. In particular, the observations of the learning styles neuromyth got me back on my current hobby horse.

I've been looking at how pervasive this theory has become. Wh

An inconvenient coincidence

I try to use examples of organisations using web 2.0 tools whenever I can to emphasise that while our immediate competitors may not be taking advantage of these methods for learning, other organisations are, and it's always a good idea to be ahead of the wave.

So I seized upon an example from Seb Schmoller's Fortnightly Mailing where Mark Oehlert had written about the success of using blogs and wikis at…

Great blog ! Laughing re iPods - I worked in eGovernment about a year ago, publicsectorforums.co.uk are probably having a field day with this (they are a fab website to go to for technology in the public sector). I remember when they thought the No10 ventures with YouTube were wacky too, but UK was no1 place in the UN eGovernment survey for connecting with its citizens.

Thanks! I'm always wondering how it's best to blog...short n sweet n informative, or with personal real-life stories, which require more reading time! I guess Google Analytics will let me know in time :)
