I haven't followed kindergarten pedagogy since I left Mrs. Hemmon's classroom way back when in '71. From what I remember, the best I can say was that kindergarten was a 'cocoon' -- a little sheltered spot, an island in the larger school. Fast forward to last week when my wife and I saw our 4 year old off to public junior kindergarten.
